ABOUT
JOADY WEATHERUP

I started out in broadcast journalism at Nine's Sunday program, working alongside some of Australia's best journalists, learning the skills of fact-based visual storytelling, and the craft of making important things interesting.

My production career weaved between TV and the web as one sector emerged and boomed and the other suffered an identity crisis. I was one of the first video journalists in Australia, delivering content via DVD to corporate clients. My client list included Sydney Opera House, Insurance Australia GroupJC Decaux, and Luna Park Sydney.

I completed a Master of Digital Media at UNSW School of Art & Design. My fellow students probably remember me as the sleep-deprived infant-nursing woman twice their age. I'm proud to say that I made the Dean’s List at graduation.

in 2017, our family made a tree-change and settled in the NSW Northern Rivers. From the top of our road was a clear distant view of ancient Gondwana rainforests in the Nightcap National Park, and it was from there in 2019 that we watched it burn. In 2022 floodwaters lapped at our door as it swept away communities and livelihoods.

I have a long standing-interest in people's health and wellbeing, and for me the connection to the sustainability of our planet is obvious and deeply troubling.

I believe the science, the evidence-based spin-free variety, and right now it's telling us that we are on a tight deadline to avert catastrophic climate change which is already impacting our natural, economic and social ecosystems.

Yet, I see the opportunity in the challenges we face, and view sustainable, equitable capitalism as an important part of the solution.
